University psychologists share workplace research

Identity and the Psychology of Self in Society (IPSIS) is a team from the University’s School of Psychology that focuses on psychology in the workplace and beyond. Presentations will focus on some of the projects that IPSIS has completed in its first two years as a formal University Centre. These projects have attracted over £2million of external funding, and have involved work with more than 20 major UK organisations.

Dr Craig Knight will present his work with Rentokil and Ambius on how office space can increase staff well-being and productivity. Dr Catherine Haslam and colleagues will talk about their work with Cornwall Care, Somerset Care the NHS and Headway to enhance the quality of life in care homes. Dr Kim Peters will focus on her two-year project with the MOD to help them increase their retention of staff.

Dr Kim Peters of the University of Exeter said: “We believe that an organisation’s success depends on the extent to which employees can successfully coordinate their actions in teams, workgroups and collaborative enterprises. Our research has demonstrated that mainstream approaches to psychology in organisations are limited by their focus on individual employees.
