Lloyd’s CEO returns to Exeter
Dr Richard Ward, Chief Executive Officer of the world-leading specialist insurance market Lloyd’s, will be speaking at the University of Exeter on Monday 8 February 2010.
The University of Exeter alumnus will be hosting the latest in the series of Shaping the Future events, organised by the university and supported by the Met Office, to bring business, science and the local community together in a lecture entitled Insurance: Shaping the Future, Learning from the Past.
Commenting on the event Dr Ward said ‘I am very much looking forward to my return to Exeter and giving what I hope to be an insight into the increasingly competitive and complex global insurance market.’
Dr Ward joined Lloyd’s as CEO in April 2006 and also sits on the Council of Lloyd’s and the Lloyd’s Franchise Board. He previously worked for over ten years at the London-based International Petroleum Exchange (IPE), the second largest energy trading exchange, as both Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman. Prior to that he held a range of senior positions at British Petroleum (BP).
Following his studies at Exeter, where he achieved a 1st Class Honours degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Physical Chemistry, Dr Ward worked as a Senior Physicist with the Science and Engineering Research Council, leading a number of research and development projects.
He is a Council member of the Heart of the City Charity and a Board Member of the Geneva Association - the leading think tank of the world’s largest insurers and reinsurers.
