Exeter Students’ Guild is best in country
The University of Exeter Students’ Guild has been officially recognised as the best Students’ Union in the country.
Exeter Students’ Guild was awarded the National Union of Students (NUS) Higher Education Students’ Union of the Year Award at a glittering ceremony in Coventry.
The Award recognises excellence within the student movement. It acknowledges best practice in the way a Students’ Union is led by its student members, the high levels of student participation both on and off campus and the positive impact students have both on and off campus.
“Being awarded this accolade means we have been officially recognised as the leading students' union in the UK - an amazing achievement,” says Guild Chief Executive James Hutchinson.
“We are absolutely delighted with this award as it represents all the hard work that the staff and students have put in this year,” says Guild President Richard Stearn. “As an organisation we have tried to be relevant to the students, invaluable to the university and beneficial to the city and this award is proof of our success,” he adds.
“The NUS Awards are a unique opportunity to demonstrate the hard work of students and their unions and the valuable contribution they make on campus and in the wider community,” says NUS President Aaron Porter.
Northumbria Students’ Union and Anglia Ruskin Students’ Union were also shortlisted for the Students’ Union of the Year Award.
Exeter student Adam Walmesley, last year’s news editor for student newspaper Exeposé, was highly commended after being shortlisted for the NUS Student Journalist of the Year Award. “To be nominated for a national award is flattering and testament to the work of the whole Exeposé team,” he says.
