Students enjoying a 3D lecture
Lectures come in 3D at the University of Exeter
From this month, students in the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences at the University of Exeter will be watching some of their lectures in a state-of-the-art 3D lecture theatre.
But, unlike a cinema which can only show 3D images produced elsewhere, the University facility also has the software that enables both students and local businesses to create their own 3D visualisations.
Dr Richard Everson explained ‘Whilst it might sound a bit futuristic, the 3D resource has some really practical applications. It will be fantastically useful in the field of medical imaging and we plan to work with the Peninsula Medical School more closely. It will also be a great tool for our engineers, mathematicians and scientists who will use it for applications as diverse as climate change modelling, vegetation mapping, and advanced computational fluid dynamics.’
Both the software and the lecture theatre can also be made available to local, private companies by arrangement with the School.
