Event Exeter scoops gold award
The University of Exeter’s commercial arm, Event Exeter, last night scooped the gold award for business tourism at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2010 with its meeting and conference facilities receiving the highest accolade for its customer service, sustainability and accessibility.
Event Exeter saw off competition from high profile venues across the South West to scoop the award, sponsored by the Met Office. The venue now goes through to the National Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2011 finals in the spring.
This is the second time in a row that Event Exeter has been recognised for its business tourism facilities and services at the awards, last year taking away silver.
The awards, run by South West Tourism in association with South West Water and Blue Chip Holidays, celebrate ‘the best in the South West' and aim to promote and reward the very best in the tourism industry. The Business Tourism Award is sponsored by the Met Office. The judges said: “Event Exeter is a very professional company that provides a thorough process from start to finish.”
Event Exeter offers a wide range of meeting and conference facilities on the leafy University campus, including its grand Italianate mansion, Reed Hall which is available all year round. It also caters for a host of other events including weddings and Christmas parties. The income raised through these activities goes back into the University to support its world-class research and teaching.
The awards event was presented by journalist and broadcaster Declan Curry, best known for presenting the business on BBC Breakfast.
