The cast of Motortown
Student show wins rave reviews at Edinburgh Festival
The Exeter University Theatre Company (EUTCO) has won rave reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for its production of Motortown.
The play, which follows the journey of Danny, a soldier back from the war in Iraq, has received two five star reviews and three four star reviews.
The Fringe review website awarded the five star review with the comments: “The story is engaging and all cast membersʼ acting is impeccable; this is a well-rehearsed piece and it shows.”
Motortownʼs acting stars are also attracting attention with a ʻbigʼ casting director seeking tickets to see the show and watch, in particular, James Dartford who plays Danny. BroadwayBaby, which gave the show four stars, says: “It is James Dartford who steals the show however, delivering an unhinged performance that is as brilliant as it is disturbing.” The show is directed by Charlie OʼReardon and co-produced by Megan Franklin and Caroline Swain.
Performances began on August 5th and run until August 29th at Edinburghʼs Zoo Roxy. “We are delighted with the fantastic response that Motortown has had at the Fringe. All of the actors have worked so hard to deliver stunning performances everyday and it is great to see their hard work and our preparations pay off. It has been a fantastic experience for everyone involved,” says Motortown co-producer Caroline Swain.
Exeter students have a fine pedigree at the Fringe, previous performances have included the five-star, sell out production of Bluebird in 2010 and Chatroom in 2009.
EUTCO is a student-run society, which is part of the University of Exeter Studentsʼ Guild.
