Future of energy under the spotlight
Leading experts on energy policy will be discussing what the future holds for Cornwall, the UK and the rest of the world at an event which aims to share cutting-edge ideas.
Falmouth Energy Week is expected to draw more than 100 delegates to discuss what needs to be done to enable an environmentally-sustainable energy supply.
Entitled ‘Frameworks for a low carbon future: Key building blocks for success’, the event brings together representatives from industry, government, NGOs, academia and community leaders.
Speakers include representatives from the WWF, UK Energy Research Centre, Shell, and the government’s Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) as well as the industry regulator Ofgem.
The annual event, now in its third year, is organised by staff at the University of Exeter’s Energy Policy Group based at the Tremough Campus.
Professor Catherine Mitchell, one of the organisers of the event and herself a leading expert on energy policy, said: “This event brings together decision makers and stakeholders in a relaxed environment to discuss some of the most pressing issues of the day about the future of UK and global energy policy.
“These issues are increasingly important as global demand for energy grows while traditional fossil fuels are rising in price and concern is growing about climate change. We’ll be discussing how we can find a sustainable and secure energy solution.”
She added: “It’s also fitting that it is held in Cornwall, which is making significant steps towards developing a low carbon economy and is recognised as a hub for renewable energy innovation.”
