Frank Gardner speaks at Northcott

He is an Arabist who graduated in 1984 with a degree in Arabic & Islamic Studies, and worked all over the Gulf before becoming the BBC’s Middle East Correspondent in Cairo. Frank was the winner of BBC Celebrity Mastermind in 2010.

Gareth Stansfield, Professor of Middle East Politics and Director of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, said, "We are delighted that Frank has returned to Exeter to share with us his knowledge and experience of the Middle East and Islamic World - a subject which he studied in Exeter and which served him well for his outstanding career.”

He added, “We are proud that Frank is one of our graduates. He is an inspirational figure for our students and staff, and his career exemplifies the benefits that can be had by specialising, at degree level, in a focused area such as the Middle East. This fact is perhaps even more pertinent today than it was in Frank's student days, and we hope that his speaking here will inspire our current students to emulate him in the future."
 
Frank will speak and take questions on his life and his new book, Far Horizons, about unusual journeys to unusual places. He will also be signing copies of his book after the talk, tickets for which have sold out.
