Students celebrate their achievements at Cornwall Children’s University's graduation ceremony.
University supports children's graduation
Cornwall Children’s University held its graduation ceremony involving 50 young people from schools across Cornwall at the Cornwall Campus on Wednesday 9 November.
50 young people who have been participating in a variety of after school and holiday learning activities across Cornwall attended with their families to receive their Silver and Gold Awards, and Certificates.
The Mayor of Penryn also attended the ceremony.
“We are really proud of what the Children’s University students have achieved,” said Tanya Moore, the Children’s University Manager for Cornwall. “Some of these students will be collecting their second level awards for completing over 165 hours of learning activity, which is a fantastic achievement.”
“They have been involved in a range of different learning activities from judo to cooking. Their level of commitment and enthusiasm for the activities is extremely admirable. The graduation ceremony gives them something to aim for as they really look forward to celebrating their achievements. ”
University of Exeter Outreach Manager Richard Prest added: “By using university students as role models, we aim to inspire young people to make the connection between the skills they are developing now and the further and higher education opportunities available to them in the future. It is exciting to see such enthusiastic and motivated students.”
Children from a number of different schools and clubs across Cornwall attended: Ludgvan, Polperro and St Cleer Primary Schools, Penryn College, Helston Beavers, Carn Brea Judo Club, RedYOUth, Penryn Saturday Club and Ocean Dance Academy.
The Children’s University is a national project which celebrates the involvement of young people in quality out of hours learning activities. Open to all young people aged between 5 and 14 years, the aim of the project is to raise the aspirations of the young people and help them develop a love of learning. There are now over 3000 children in Cornwall taking part in the project which is being run by Cornwall Learning in partnership with University College Falmouth and University of Exeter.
