Exeter hits Guardian top ten

The league table ranks Exeter tenth out of 116 UK higher education institutions. The guide is accompanied by rankings showing how universities perform across the main subject areas. Universities are ranked according to a number of factors, including academic excellence and how happy students are with their courses, based on the National Student Survey.

University of Exeter Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Professor Sir Steve Smith said: “The University of Exeter is now firmly in the top ten of UK universities. This is an extraordinary result, given our position just a few years ago, and is testimony to the hard work of our staff and students. The opening of our new Forum by Her Majesty The Queen on 2 May marked the beginning of a new era for Exeter and we have recently accepted an invitation to join the Russell Group. Our ranking in the Guardian league table cements our status as one of the best universities in the country.”

Exeter also made the top ten of a number of the subject tables, including Sports Science (2^nd), Engineering: materials and minerals (2^nd), Theology (5^th), Biosciences (5^th) and English (8^th).

The tables are compiled by an independent consultancy, Intelligent Metrix.
