Top nominations in national student employment awards

The University of Exeter has the highest number of nominations nationally – 77 – in the Student Employee of the Year Awards 2013.

The awards recognise and promote the outstanding contribution and achievements of students who combine part-time work with their study commitments.

This competition provides a positive impact on students’ future by giving them the chance to include a National SEOTY nomination or a local, regional or national award on their CV.

The largest number of nominations at Exeter is in the ‘On Campus’ category, with teams and individual students recognised for their work by employers at the University. These include students who have worked as ambassadors, gardeners, musicians and stewards. Students who have worked as assistants within the Marketplace in the Forum, the SID desk, in St Luke’s Sports Centre, in the Employment Services Team, Career Zone, in the library and in the University of Exeter Students’ Guild  Advice Unit, Print Room and Kitchen Deli and others are nominated. Employers off campus have been nominating too and have also been nominated by students. External employers involved in the competition include Positive Aspects, Exeter Rugby Club, Catering Services International and Stratton Craig.

Jen Hardwick, Student Employment Coordinator, said: “Nominations are based on a student being exceptional so this shows how professional and accomplished students at the University of Exeter are when they take on casual employment. We also see numerous internal and external employers recognised in the awards; recognising the great relationships students build with their supervisors in the work place and the student friendly employers who recruit Exeter students. We are so proud of the achievements of all the nominees.”

Institutional winners will be announced at Exeter on 15 May, with regional winners on 31 May and the National Finals on 20 June. The Student Employee of the Year Awards have been coordinated on an annual basis by the National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES) since 2002 and have grown year on year.

The University of Exeter has nominations in all six categories:

  • Student Temp Employee of the Year
  • Job Shop Employee of the Year
  • On Campus Student Employee of the Year
  • Off Campus Student Employee of the Year
  • International Student Employee of the Year
