Camborne School of Mines Trust donation

The donation will be used to create the new Henderson-Hackett Fund. Dr Peter Hackett OBE was the Principal of the School when Mr Henderson was a student and the fund is to be used to expand the promotion of Mining and Minerals education at the Camborne School of Mines, now part of the University of Exeter on its Penryn Campus.  Mr Henderson said: “I am very pleased to be making this donation now to enable the Trust to continue supporting the students and staff at the School and afford them the same opportunities that I have enjoyed during my career in an exciting worldwide industry. It is really satisfying to be giving something back.”

The Trust has donated more than £2 million to the University of Exeter since 1993 in the form of grants for the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate students, staff, travel, field trips, prizes, seed corn funds and student association support. Philanthropy at Exeter is a key part of our ability to carry out innovative research, create new facilities for learning and help support students who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford a university education.

Frances Wall, Professor in Applied Mineralogy and Head of Camborne School of Mines & Associate said:"This is a very exciting donation and we look forward to working with the Trust to do justice to Tim Henderson’s generosity. Ensuring we give access to a career in mining engineering to as wide a range of people as possible and providing start up funds for new research initiatives are some of the ideas we are considering."
