Vice-Chancellor accompanied David Cameron on visit to India
University of Exeter Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Steve Smith accompanied the Prime Minister David Cameron on a three day visit to India.
The University, which has an office in Bangalore and extensive research partnerships with some of India’s leading universities, is one of just six UK universities to join the Prime Minister on the visit.
The University of Exeter is offering 14 full scholarships for Indian students to attend its International Summer School in July-August 2013, worth in total £32,000. The trip was an opportunity to reinforce the message that Britain, and the University of Exeter, is open and welcoming to India’s best students.
Professor Smith said: “India is an incredibly important partner for both the University and the city of Exeter in the knowledge economy. The University of Exeter is investing heavily in its partnerships with leading Indian universities for the long-term. Our representative presence in Bangalore, with two full-time members of staff, demonstrates our commitment to our students, our alumni and our partners.”
The University of Exeter hosts hundreds of Indian students every year, bringing in millions of pounds to the South West economy. Exeter is also pioneering a split-site PhD in Bangalore and Exeter with the National Institute of Advanced Studies, in Archaeology and Drama.
Professor Smith will return to India in March 2013 to sign a memorandum of understanding with the National Law School of India University and Jain University, to further research links and facilitate the exchange of students.
