Medical Sciences graduates stand proud
Proud moment for Medical Sciences graduates
The first students to qualify from the University of Exeter’s Medical Sciences programme enjoyed a day of graduation celebrations.
All 23 of the University of Exeter Medical School’s Medical Sciences students have graduated successfully, with nine out of ten students achieving Upper 2nd or 1st Class Honours.
The students were congratulated by Professor Sir Steve Smith at a prestigious ceremony, followed by a champagne reception at the Streatham Campus, and a picnic on a sun-drenched St Luke’s.
Dr Reza Zamani, Director of the Programme, said: “I’m extremely proud of this first cohort, who have been exceptional to work with. I’m sure they will all excel in their careers. I hope they will keep in touch, and we will be delighted to offer any further support they need.”
Professor Steve Thornton, Dean of the University of Exeter Medical School, said: “This is a programme designed to educate graduates to drive science and innovation within the healthcare industry, and I foresee great things for these graduates. It has been an honour to be involved in their education and their graduation was a joyous occasion for all of us.”
The Medical Sciences programme provides a firm foundation in the core biomedical and biomolecular sciences. It offers an insight into medical practice and the biotechnologies used to test and diagnose disorders and treat patients. Students develop scientific knowledge and robust research skills in a clinical context, plus creative and inquisitive communication and problem-solving skills. The course prepares students for a successful research career, helping to progress scientific discovery into clinical and medical practice, ultimately to improve health.
Students have access to state-of-the-art online programme materials to supplement lectures and structured small group learning sessions. The Medical School offers a research-rich environment, with teaching offered by leading experts in their fields.
