Exeter appoints new Deputy Vice-Chancellor
Professor Mark Goodwin has been appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Exeter. He takes up his new role on 1 August and succeeds Professor Mark Overton who becomes Dean of the Faculty of Taught Programmes.
Professor Goodwin is currently Professor of Human Geography and Dean of the College of Life and Environmental Sciences.
In his new role he will have line management responsibilities for the Cornwall Campus and the Deans of the College of Social Sciences and International Studies and the University of Exeter Business School. Other responsibilities include leading on External Affairs and Equality and Diversity.
Professor Goodwin graduated from the University of Sussex, before completing his PhD at the London School of Economics. Before becoming Dean of CLES in 2010, he was Head of the School of Geography, and prior to that was Head of the School of Geography, Archaeology and Earth Resources.
He joined the staff at Exeter in 2004, arriving from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he was Director of the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences. He served on the ESRC’s Strategic Research Board from 2003-2007, and was its Vice-Chair from 2006-2007. He was elected as an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences in 2011.
His most recent book Rescaling the State: Devolution and the Geographies of Economic Governance was published by Manchester University Press in 2012, and the third edition of the leading textbook Introducing Human Geographies will be published by Routledge in 2013.
