Forum wins at World Architecture Festival

The Forum has recently been announced as the winner of the Higher Education and Research Category at the World Architecture Festival.

The flagship £48m student services building has transformed the heart of the Streatham Campus.

The award was announced on 2 October in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

The Higher Education and Research category contained 13 other shortlisted projects from across the globe, of which The Forum was the only UK project to be highlighted.

Designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects, who won ‘Building of the Year’ at last year’s festival, and constructed by Sir Robert McAlpine, work began to create the Forum in March 2010. After 72,594 man-hours of work, 4.5 Olympic swimming pools of soil removed and 2409 m3 of poured concrete, the Forum was officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen on 2 May 2012.

Hugh Mc Cann, Director of Estate Development Service said: “We are delighted to receive international recognition for our stunning Forum Project. The building really is quite spectacular and we’d like to thank Wilkinson Eyre for their vision, which has enabled us to have a world-class teaching, learning and social space at the heart of the Streatham Campus.”

The judges said: "The project creates hugely uplifting spaces for the students with a delightfully detailed timber gridshell roof."
