Cabinet reshuffle promotion for Exeter alumnus
Exeter alumnus Sajid Javid MP has been promoted in the Prime Minister’s Cabinet reshuffle.
Sajid (Economics & Politics, 1991) is now the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, which is a more senior role to his previous ministerial position as Economic Secretary to the Treasury. Sajid became the MP for Bromsgrove in Worcestershire in the 2010 general election and is being seen as one of the Conservative Party’s rising stars.
He said of his promotion: “I am delighted to accept the responsibilities of becoming Financial Secretary to the Treasury, and I look forward to carrying out my new duties. As always, my constituents continue to come first. I am only able to work as a minister due to their support."
The son of a bus driver, Sajid went to state schools before securing his place at Exeter. After his graduation he pursued a successful career in banking.
He became a Vice-President of Chase Manhattan Bank in New York aged 25 and was later headhunted by Deutsche Bank to help build its business in developing countries. Sajid is now seen as a global expert in helping to raise investment in developing countries. By 2009, when he left Deutsche Bank to stand for Parliament, he was a senior Managing Director.
Sajid is married to Laura and they have four children.
