Exepose shortlisted as ‘student publication of the year’
Exeposé, the independent newspaper by and for University of Exeter students, has been shortlisted for the student publication of the year prize at the 2013 Guardian Student Media Awards.
It is up against newspapers from Nottingham, Oxford and York universities for the coveted prize.
Last year, 2012-13, saw the 25th anniversary year of Exeposé. It is produced fortnightly and involves a team of 23 print editors, with over a hundred students contributing to each issue. 23 web editors work on the online version, launched last year.
Exeposé was co-edited in 2012/13 by Tom Payne (BA English) and Zoe Bulaitis (MA English).
Tom says: “One of our main ambitions was to get Exeposé nominated for a Guardian Student Media award, but I'm not sure we ever thought that it would actually happen! It’s the perfect end to a fantastic year for the paper. The nomination is a real tribute to our talented and committed team of editors, designers and photographers, who all worked long and hard to produce an outstanding edition of the paper each and every fortnight during the 2012/13 academic year.
“The quality of student newspapers across the country is so high, so to have all of our work recognised on a national level, endorsed by some of Britain’s top journalists, is just incredible.”
The full shortlist for the 35th annual Guardian Student Media Awards was published on Wednesday 18 September.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on 27 November.
A record number of applicants – more than 800 in total – put themselves forward for this year's awards, which were judged by leading industry figures including Alan Rusbridger, the editor-in-chief of the Guardian, and Lisa Smosarski, the editor of Stylist magazine.
In 2008 Exeposé won the NUS Award for Best Student Newspaper.
