Exeter graduates are more employable than ever

The University of Exeter is celebrating after the institution recorded a 10% increase in employer reputation, in the QS World University Rankings, for the second year running.

This rise means that the University is now positioned 127th in the world, 51 places higher than the 2012 rankings.  The rankings are determined by the survey responses of graduate employers, who are asked to identify the universities that, in their view, produce the best graduates.  This allows students to make better sense of how universities are viewed in the jobs market.

This good news for University of Exeter follows an excellent showing in several graduate prospects league tables, a number of employer-endorsed awards and accolades, increased targeting by multinational companies, and the recent hosting of the AGCAS (Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Service) Biennial Conference.  The institution has also been cited as the “employability centre of the future” by Sir Michael Barber.

Paul Blackmore, Head of Employability and Graduate Development, said: “This latest excellent news shows how far we have come as a top 200 world university.  Employers, both in the UK and further afield, recruit Exeter graduates because they can see that an Exeter degree represents a world-class higher education experience that helps our students become the most employable in the sector and equips them with the tools they need to succeed in the global jobs market.  Our performance in the World University Rankings shows that employers recognise and value this.”

The QS World University Rankings compare the world’s top 800 universities, and assess over 2,000 more, with the top 400 given individual ranking positions.  The overall rankings are compiled using six criteria: academic reputation, employer reputation, student-to-faculty ration, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, and international student ratio.

The University of Exeter has moved up 14 places in the QS World Rankings from 182 last year to a shared 168th place, this year.
