RAG aim high for charity challenge

The RAG (Raising and Giving) Society is aiming to raise £100,000 for charity this year.

They will be putting on a wide range of events and completing two big challenges – one of which is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

The climb, due to take place in September 2014, will be led by two Exeter students, Kelly Wariner and Javaria Burki. They will be taking 40 students to climb Kilimanjaro for Hope for Children; a charity which provides for children who have been exploited, orphaned or are poor in developing countries and the UK. The trip aims to raise a minimum of £40,000.

An Information Evening will be held on Tuesday 1 October, 6pm in  Lecture Theatre 1, Queen’s Building, Streatham Campus – all students are welcome to come along and find out more.

Javaria Burki, a third year Law student, says: “I am so excited about leading this trip with Kelly and raising funds through undertaking this adventure. It will be a physical and mental challenge but supporting this excellent charity is so important.  This is just one of RAG’s planned events – so the prospects are huge for us to reach our fundraising target of £100,000 this year.”

Last year RAG’s members helped raise £69,941.21 for charity.
