The Education Strategy will be a priority for Prof Kaye

University announces new senior appointments

The University’s governing body, Council, has approved the appointment of Prof Nick Kaye as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) for five years from 1 Aug 2014. 

Prof Kaye’s portfolio will include responsibility for the University’s Education Strategy and the student experience, line management responsibility for the College of Social Sciences and International Studies, and the development of the University’s Arts and Culture Strategy.

Nick Kaye is currently Dean of the College of Humanities and Professor of Performance Studies.  His research focuses on the history of post-war experimental performance, with emphasis on the relationship between theatre and the development of ideas and practices through distinct but related disciplines, including sculpture, architectural theory, conceptual and performance art, aspects of experimental music, installation, video art and video installation.

Prof Kaye said: “I am thrilled to be taking on this important role which is so heavily involved with the refinement and implementation of the University’s new Education Strategy. My thanks go to Prof Janice Kay for all the excellent work she has already done on this critical project.”

In other changes, Prof Neil Armstrong will step down as Provost and Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor on 31 July 2014 to focus on his research, and Prof Janice Kay will be assuming this role. Prof Janice Kay will continue to have line management responsibility for the University of Exeter Medical School and Prof Mark Goodwin will have responsibility for the Business School and the College of Humanities.  Prof Debra Myhill has been appointed as Dean of the College of Social Sciences and International Studies taking over from Prof Robert Van de Noort who is moving to the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor Academic Planning and Resources at the University of Reading on 1 August.
