Hannah looks to take the reins

Hannah, 22, says: “Unfortunately I lost my dad when I was 17 which has been enormously difficult throughout my education. Luckily Exeter was so close to home that I was able to attend a brilliant university while working at home to support my mum and the business, while finding time to compete the horses and teach during the holidays. If I had not got in to Exeter I probably would not have gone to university because of the circumstances. The biggest challenge has been combining my Uni work and helping run our family business and having to play lots of different roles, but I have been driven with motivation and dedication.”

One of Hannah’s highlights of her time at Exeter has been being part of the University Riding Club First team, and she also qualified for the National Championships as an individual in her second year. 

Hannah worked at the Longwood horse yard, in Ipplepen near Newton Abbot and instructs for South Devon West Pony Club. She has been riding since the age of four, and competed in all spheres including Dressage, Show Jumping, Mounted Games and has even ridden Side Saddle. She represented South Devon West Pony Club at the National Championships, and also competed at the Horse of the Year Show. 

Since finishing her degree Hannah is working part-time for NFU-Mutual in Newton Abbot alongside working at home.  She is hoping to take on the family business at Longmeadow Farm.
