Exeter enjoys notable success in Guardian 2015 University Guide

A variety of subjects from across the institution have been ranked as being amongst the top 10 in the latest influential league table rankings, which were published on 3 June. There were also a wide array of subjects that rose in their respective tables, when compared year-on-year.

Exeter’s overall position is 12th out of 116 UK higher education institutions in the 2015 Guide, maintaining last year’s position.

These latest classifications, coupled with its standing in the top one per cent in the Times Higher Education international ranking, reiterate Exeter’s position as a world-leading university.

Exeter secured top ten rankings in a number of subjects. They are: Sport & Health Sciences (2nd), Medical Imaging (under Health Professions) (2nd), Engineering: materials and mineral (2nd), History (4th), Theology (4th), Classics (5th), Engineering: general (5th), Media and Film Studies (5th), Sociology (6th), Biosciences (7th), Medicine (8th), Mathematics (8th), Politics (8th),  Psychology (8th), English (8th), and Philosophy (10th).

Among the biggest climbers were Politics (up from 25th to 8th), Philosophy (22nd to 10th), Mathematics (15th to 8th) and Psychology (19th to 8th).

The University of Exeter Medical School’s BMBS Medicine programme’s 8th place ranking, coupled with Medical Imaging’s ranking as the best of its kind in the country, confirms the University’s burgeoning reputation as a leading centre of health research excellence in the UK.

The Guardian University Guide ranks universities according to a number of factors, including academic excellence and how happy students are with their courses, based on the National Student Survey. It is also accompanied by rankings showing how universities perform across the main subject areas.
