Exeter hosts record breaking Big Bang science and engineering fair
Budding scientists from across the South West region will experience their very own ‘Big Bang’ moment at a special fair hosted by the University of Exeter.
The fourth annual Big Bang South West fair will take place at Exeter’s Streatham Campus on Thursday 26 June.
Researchers from across the University will be sharing their enthusiasm, passion and expertise for all things science, technology, engineering and maths with more than 2,500 students, teachers and guests at the event.
The fair, billed as a day of education, engagement and competition, will encourage students of all ages to be inspired by more than 80 interactive trade stands, featuring regional and national businesses including the Met Office, Western Power Distribution, Mott MacDonald and J P Morgan.
Nearly 150 student projects from schools across the region will also be judged by a panel of more than 100 industry professionals, for the chance to win a vast array of awards, including the coveted UK Young Scientist, and Engineer of the Year, prizes.
There is also an innovative Mega Class hosted by the National Space Centre, and an Ugly Animal Road Show, hosted by the co-presenter of Channel 4’s Inside Nature’s Giants, Simon Watt.
Event organiser Janie Harper said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to get the creative juices flowing and get inspired about a career in STEM. “Everyone should be interested in science and engineering because, not only are they fascinating subjects in their own right, but they encourage curiosity, and from curiosity we make discoveries – and discoveries are exciting and life-changing!”
