Cornwall academic awarded medal for scientific contribution
Professor David Hosken from the Penryn Campus has been awarded a prestigious prize from the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) in recognition of outstanding scientific merit.
Professor Hosken was awarded the 2013 ZSL Scientific Medal at a glittering ceremony at the Society's London headquarters.
The award is given to zoologists with no more than 15 years postdoctoral experience, in recognition of scientific merit. Based at the University's Centre for Ecology and Conservation. Professor Hosken is an evolutionary biologist known worldwide for his work in sexual selection and sexual conflict.
He uses a wide range of techniques from field to molecular biology to establish the nature of adaptation. He has recently co-edited the first book devoted to sperm evolution, and co-edited the first book dedicated to genotype by environment interactions and sexual selection.
Professor Geoff Boxshall, ZSL Secretary, said: “Professor Hosken’s work shows excellence, flair and originality, and he richly deserves the Society’s Scientific Medal.”
Professor Hosken said: “I was absolutely amazed to win the award and it was brilliant to attend the ceremony alongside so many worthy prize winners.”
The award was presented by Professor Sir Patrick Bateson, ZSL President.
