RCHT welcomes the appointment of Professor Steve Thornton as an associate Non-Executive Director
Angela Ballatti, Chairman at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust has welcomed the appointment of Professor Steve Thornton as an associate Non-Executive Director and new member of the Trust Board.
Professor Steve Thornton is the Dean at the University of Exeter Medical School and Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry (PCMD). He is a practising Consultant Obstetrician. Professor Thornton has held leadership roles at regional and national levels including Medical Director for Research and Development at the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, Associate Dean (research) at the University of Warwick and clinical lead for research, development and innovation at the West Midlands Strategic Health Authority. He also led the development of a National Network for Maternal Health and Childbirth. Locally he will be known for his leadership role at one of the top medical schools in the country at the University of Exeter, and his support for research and education in Cornwall.
Welcoming Professor Steve Thornton to the RCHT Trust Board, Chairman Angela Ballatti said: “I am delighted that we have been able to appoint Professor Steve Thornton as an associate Non-Executive Director. His clinical expertise and leadership skills will be a welcome addition to the Trust Board. His knowledge of healthcare at a regional and national level alongside a proven track record in research, development, education and innovation will make him an outstanding member of the team at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.”
Professor Steve Thornton said on appointment: “I am looking forward to my new role as an associate Non-Executive Director at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. I am absolutely committed to improving the quality and safety of healthcare and integrating education and research to transform NHS services. Working with Angela, Lezli and the wider Trust leadership I want to support the provision of high quality care for all in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.”
