Penryn Campus, Cornwall
University of Exeter Business School opens its doors in Cornwall
The University of Exeter is reinforcing its commitment to boosting Cornwall’s economic prosperity by launching its Business School on the Penryn Campus.
The cutting-edge Business School, which will welcome its first students in October 2015, forms an integral part of the latest redevelopment at Penryn.
In order to encourage local participation within the flagship Business School, the University is providing a number of scholarships exclusively for Cornwall students, of £1,500.
The new Business School will initially offer a BSc Business programme, an exciting business honours degree course providing students with a rigorous grounding in all aspects of business management.
This leading programme will also incorporate many of Cornwall’s most famous attributes, with a spine of innovation, sustainability and social enterprise running through the curriculum.
Additional programmes may become available at the Business School in subsequent academic years.
Prof Sandy Williams, the Business School’s Associate Dean of Education said: “This is a truly innovative programme and we’re very much looking forward to welcoming our first cohort of students in 2015.
“Whilst developing the curriculum we have been mindful of all that the local area has to offer in terms of opportunities, as well as incorporating some of the elements and thinking behind our world-leading One Planet MBA. We believe this could become one of the most popular degrees offered on our Penryn Campus.”
In addition to the academic curriculum, students will also be expected to complete a work placement in their second year as work-related learning and progressive employability are also core components of the programme.
It will provide the opportunity for students to enjoy modules offered in partnership with several of the distinctive research Centres that the University of Exeter has already established in Cornwall. These include Environmental Economics with the European Centre for Environment &Human Health, Mathematics with the Environment and Sustainability Institute, and Project Management with the Camborne School of Mines. BSc Business also has its own, unique modules including the innovative People, Wellbeing and Work.
A new £5.5 million building is under construction which will house the Business School. It will also feature a specially designed area for business engagement called ‘The Collaboratory’ from which dedicated staff, along with the University’s Knowledge Exchange team, will lead a number of long-term research projects with selected local business partners.
For applicants who want to find out more about the programme, a special introductory session is running during the Penryn Campus Open Day on Saturday 14 June. To attend, please register on our website.
