Academics celebrated in annual student awards

The winning academics, who were nominated by students for their commitment to excellence in the Students’ Guild and FXU Teaching Awards 2016, were announced at an event attended by students, staff and lecturers in the Alumni Auditorium in the Forum on the Streatham Campus.

The ‘Best Subject’ at Exeter was awarded to English, with the Camborne School of Mines scooping the prize for ‘Best Subject’ at Penryn. Christina Walton of Law was honoured with the title of ‘Best Lecturer’, with Dr Lewis Meyer of the Camborne School of Mines securing the runner-up position.

Professor Tim Quine, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) said: “These awards in particular are important because they are student led – organised by the Guild and FXU, with the nominations coming from the very students who, it is clear, are so inspired by the academics that we are celebrating. The Teaching Awards are a fantastic celebration of education at Exeter; but they are also a celebration of the partnership between the University, the Guild and FXU.”

The Students' Guild Teaching Awards were introduced in 2012 to recognise the outstanding dedication and commitment of University staff. They were created to acknowledge staff, who not only provide outstanding academic experiences, but who support their students' wider development.
