Exeter maintains strong position in influential world ranking

Exeter has been ranked 164th in the QS World University Rankings, the largest and most extensive international league table, published on September 6. The University has also seen a small rise nationally, placed 26th in the UK.

Professor Sir Steve Smith, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Exeter, said: “I am delighted that, once again, Exeter’s position as being amongst the best universities, both nationally and globally, has been reinforced. These rankings demonstrate not just the strength of the ground-breaking research carried out by our world-leading researchers, but also the benefits our students receive through our strong global employer reputation.”

This is the 13th year that QS has published its World University Rankings. They are based on six indicators selected to reflect research impact, commitment to high-quality teaching, internationalization, and global reputation amongst both academics and employers. They are compiled by considering more than 3,500 universities worldwide using 121,000 survey responses.

The rankings are the latest success for Exeter on the international stage. Earlier this year, both science and humanities subjects at the University of Exeter were ranked among the world’s best in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, with 18 of the 42 subjects featuring amongst the world's elite institutions.

The University also recently placed sixth in the UK, eighth in Europe and 35th in the world in the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2016, which offers key insights into the scientific performance of 750 major universities worldwide, as well as retaining its position in the top 200 ranked global institutions in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2016.

Last year, the University broke into the top 100 universities in the world for the first time in the highly influential Times Higher Education World University Rankings, placed 93rd.
