Exeter Clinical Trials Unit receives national registration

Clinical Trials Units (CTUs) are specialist units that bring together the expertise needed to undertake a clinical trial, including trial managers, statisticians, information technology specialists, health economists, and clinicians. To be eligible to apply for the national registration process, Units had to demonstrate they were capable of centrally coordinating multi-centre clinical trials and other well-designed studies, taking overall responsibility for the design, conduct, data management, publicity and analysis of a trial in line with appropriate standards and regulations.

Exeter CTU joins a UK wide network of 51 Registered Clinical Trials Units, the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) Registered UK Clinical Trials Units Network following the UKCRC 2017 Registration Review Process, which was led by an International Review Committee of experts. Professor Rod Taylor, Director of the University of Exeter funded Exeter CTU, said: “I am delighted and proud that our Clinical Trials Unit has been awarded official registration. This registration is an important milestone in our new Unit’s development and reflects the hard work and dedication of all its staff.  We look forward to exciting collaborations that could lead to new treatments with global benefit.”
