Exeter students to take part in 12-hour Sport Relief football match
A group of six first-year theology students from the University of Exeter are set to play against eight celebrities, led by Robbie Savage, to raise money for Sport Relief.
The public can watch the team play Friday 23 March from 7.30pm on BBC 1, or listen on BBC 5 Live.
After joining the FA People’s Cup in January, ‘Theologians United’ were selected among thousands to travel to the BBC studios in Manchester to take part in the event.
Darius Moghtadaii, captain of Theologians United, said; “We are very excited for the event. The chance to appear on Sport Relief is an honour for all of us.
“Our team got selected out of over 7,500 teams so it will be a great opportunity to not only represent the Theology department but also the University of Exeter as a whole.
“I am sure it will be a great experience, and considering it will be covered across the BBC we should gain some publicity for a great cause!”
He went on to say, “The University has supported us greatly both financially and in increasing publicity.
“Without their support I am not sure we would have been able to make the journey! The Theology department, particularly Susan Margetts, has been huge help in making the trip happen as well as the College of Humanities, namely Jenna Richards, who even got us t-shirts to boast at the BBC studios!”
The team will play against celebrities such as Olympic hockey gold medallist Sam Quek and presenter Kirsty Gallacher.
