New printers are coming
New and improved printers coming this Summer
This summer we’re installing new and greener printers at Streatham and St Luke’s. Across the two sites, 200 new machines will be installed providing many benefits to colleagues, students and the University.
You’ll notice the new printers being installed from 29 July 2019 and all of the features previously available and the locations of the printers will remain the same. Each printer installation will take no longer than one day and often will be completed in just a few hours. In addition, new improvements and features will include:
- More convenience - All printers accessible to staff and students. Option to save scans directly to OneDrive for Business. For more information on OneDrive, please see the website
- Increased reliability - Campus-based technicians on-hand to replace paper and ink and deal with any other problems that arise. This removes the need for you to order ink and paper locally
- Improved efficiency - The new machines use less power and offer significant financial savings to the University
- Greater control – Students will be able to check their print credit balance, top up and, for the first time, request a refund online
- Greener – Participating in the PrintReleaf scheme; planting trees according to our paper usage, offsetting the environmental impact for this service alongside a reduction in the power each printer uses.
As part of this role out, the way you will access your print jobs will change. Printing will now be accessed by an app on your phone or via your username. If you are using your mobile, run the app and simply present your phone to the touch pad and your printing options will appear. Alternatively, you can manually key-in your username (e.g. ab123) and password. We’ll let you know how and when to download the app.
And very soon, a new print queue will appear in your application print menu when you choose to print a document, called ‘STAFF_FOLLOWME’. To use the new print machines all staff will need to select ‘STAFF_FOLLOWME’. Students using a cluster PC will see the option of ‘STUDENT_FOLLOWME’. The old printer queues will be removed when the roll out is complete.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with David Howells, Project Manager. This is another example of how we’re investing in and delivering new and improved digital capabilities to meet the expectations of a World-class University.
