Sarah Turvill, Chair of Council
The search is on for our new Vice-Chancellor
Professor Sir Steve Smith will be retiring in August 2020, and the recruitment process to find our new Vice-Chancellor has begun.
We’re following a defined process to find the right leader for our University, one who can build on our current successes and enable us to thrive in the future. The process will be led by a Joint Committee of Council and Senate, chaired by Sarah Turvill, our Chair of Council.
We are using a professional recruitment firm and working with an external advisor on diversity amongst senior appointments. Feedback from colleagues, students, alumni and stakeholders has shaped the attributes and leadership competences that we are looking for in our next leader.
Sarah Turvill, Chair of Council, says: “We are seeking an exceptional leader who understands the transformative power of teaching, learning, research and innovation, and also the importance of good governance. We are looking for someone who can shape our future, someone who can enhance our global reputation, someone who will reinforce what makes us distinctive, someone who believes in our values and who has the ambition to continue to take the University forward and make the exceptional happen.”
Application is open until 24 June 2019. Initial interviews with the search firm will take place in July/August with final stage interviews taking place in late October 2019.
