Exeter launches Master in Public Health to develop future global leaders

The course combines the expertise of Exeter’s world-renowned public health experts with specialists in leadership and management at the University of Exeter Business School.

Professor G.J Melendez-Torres, joint programme lead, said: “It’s incredibly exciting that from the first lecture on day one, our students will develop and use their skills to become global leaders and decision-makers in today’s highly complex environments. Our graduates will become fully equipped to develop new solutions to improve the health of individuals, families, communities and populations – particularly the most vulnerable and underprivileged across the world. ” 

The programme combines the most relevant elements of local expertise and global networks in environment and health, global health, complexity in healthcare, systems approaches to leadership and partnership working, and collaborative decision-making

Teaching will be undertaken by world-leaders in their field equipping students with the research skills and knowledge to innovate.

Professor Melendez-Torres said: “We can’t wait to welcome our first students, and to work with them on understanding what it means to be healthy in the modern era. We’ll be equipping them to embrace complexity to develop new solutions and processes that can have meaningful benefit.”

Professor Clive Ballard, Executive Dean and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Exeter Medical School, said: “Students on our exciting new MPH will learn directly from world-leading researchers in the field, who are contributing to understanding and creating new ways of working and innovative approaches to public health. I’m looking forward to seeing how students benefit from our outstanding teaching, research and support and translating that into tackling world challenges.”
