Genetics professor in top 100 inspirational women in healthcare leadership

The Women in Healthcare Leadership (WIHL) project announced Professor Lorna Harries as part of their 100 Word Project, designed to shine a spotlight on inspirational female healthcare leaders.

Lorna Harries, Professor of Molecular Genetics at the University of Exeter Medical School, said: “I’m delighted to be included in this list, it’s a fantastic recognition of women in healthcare leadership. I’m extremely honoured to be able to watch my team members grow and develop in my job. I’m proud of my contribution to ageing research where I have interesting and potential useful findings.

“A piece of advice I would share is to keep going. Don’t let anyone else tell you what is and isn’t possible. Aim high, but don’t be afraid to fall, that’s when you learn.”

Professor Harries is additionally the co-ordinator of the annual CSI (Cell Science Investigates) school outreach programme, promoting women in science. The event promotes diversity in science and breaks down stigmas surrounding female scientists and healthcare specialists.  

Each day, the WIHL project feature a different inspirational person for 100 days, and Professor Harries was named on day 35. The project is part of the Health Leadership Academy which, aims to create a bank of resources for women aspiring to become leaders in healthcare and address gender imbalances within the NHS.
