Professor Lisa Roberts
Welcome to our new Vice-Chancellor
Professor Lisa Roberts has joined the University of Exeter as our new Vice-Chancellor. Lisa joins Exeter from the University of Leeds where she held the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation. She took the reins as Exeter’s Vice-Chancellor on 1 September 2020 following the retirement of Professor Sir Steve Smith.
Professor Lisa Roberts, Vice-Chancellor, said: “I’m really looking forward to meeting more colleagues and students as more of us make a safe return to campus. I’ve seen first-hand the outstanding and innovative work everyone has been doing as we manage through the COVID-19 pandemic so far and I’d like to say thank you to colleagues and students for your tremendous work adapting to the difficult situation we’ve all found ourselves in. I’ve been so impressed with the way the University community has pulled together. I believe that the coming years for Exeter will be shaped not only by what we do, but how we work; with connectivity, partnership and agility being key to our future success. A key priority for me is to begin the work to develop a new University Strategy and I’ll be calling upon the whole University and our stakeholders to get involved in shaping this. Together, we can build an exciting and ambitious future for the University”.
Sarah Turvill, Chair of Council, said: “We are delighted that Lisa has joined us and she will continue the great work by Sir Steve to establish Exeter as one of the top global universities. We will work together to continue to build a diverse and innovative community that places outstanding teaching and research at its heart to create a better world.”
Janice Kay, Provost, said: “Lisa’s leadership in research and innovation and her success in creating strong business and community partnerships will be vital in taking Exeter forward so that we are well placed to weather the challenging situation we all find ourselves in. Her commitment to working across disciplines and supporting academic talent will set the university in good stead for the years ahead.”
