University of Exeter appoints Ash Roots as new Chief Digital Officer

Ash Roots, who was the Chief Digital Officer for the Consumer unit at BT, will join the University of Exeter as the Russell Group institution’s new Chief Digital Officer in February 2022.

Ash Roots has over 20 years of experience working with a wide range of organisations on digital transformation and maximising tech opportunities, including in senior roles for Dixons Carphone, Direct Line Group, Three UK and most recently at BT on high profile brands such as EE and Plusnet.

Professor Lisa Roberts, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Exeter said: “I am delighted to announce that Ash Roots has been appointed as our new Chief Digital Officer, following a global search and competitive recruitment process.

“Ash’s passion for the ways in which digital transformation, designed by people for people, can improve the way we learn and work, is infectious and inspiring. I am excited to be able to welcome him into our senior team to help drive forward this key aspect of our 2030 Strategy, where he will lead the co-creation of our digital vision and strategy with colleagues and students.”

I will utilise knowledge from different industries to benefit higher education and want to make the University of Exeter and the UK a global leader in EdTech. I also look forward to working with colleagues and partners across South West England to drive forward digital skills and opportunities for the region.”
