Exeter rises into top 150 in latest influential rankings

The University of Exeter’s global reputation has been reinforced after it rose into the top 150 worldwide in the latest influential league table.

Exeter is ranked 143rd in the world in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings, released today (Thursday, September 2nd 2021) – a rise of 31 places.

The University has also moved back into the top 20 in the UK in the league table, rising five places to 19th.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings are based 13 separate performance measures covering all of the core missions of a world class university and grouped into five areas – teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.  Exeter’s score in each of these five core areas increased year-on-year.

Professor Lisa Roberts, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter said: “I am delighted that the University of Exeter has secured a top 150 position in these latest global rankings.  This is an exceptional result and has only been possible through the hard work and commitment shown by our whole community.

“To achieve such outstanding results across all five key areas, and improve our standing in each one, highlights Exeter’s position as a world-leading university for teaching, research and working with industry partners. I am extremely proud of what we all continue to achieve at Exeter, and our role in creating a sustainable, healthy and socially just future for all.”

These are the latest rankings this year that reflect Exeter’s position amongst the world’s leading universities.

Recently, the University broke into the top 150 in the QS World University Rankings for the first time, securing 149th position, while the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) saw the University retain its place amongst the top 200 ranked global institutions. Exeter was also ranked 31st internationally in the CWTS Leiden Rankings, which offers key insights into the scientific performance of the major universities worldwide.
