University of Exeter hosts alumni receptions in Washington DC and New York City

The University recently hosted two receptions for alumni in Washington, DC and New York City.  These are the first receptions held for university alumni in the United States for more than a decade.  Dozens of alumni from as far away as Minnesota, South Carolina and Boston attended the two receptions and learned about the University’s recent achievements and ambitious plans for the future.

In Washington DC, alumni shared stories of their time at Exeter and are already planning to meet to organise more activities.  Michael Clauser, who acts as the University’s alumni contact for the DC-area, will soon be meeting with other alumni to plan future events.  If you’d like to get involved, please contact Michael, whose details can be viewed on our international contacts page.

In New York City, alumni had the chance to meet Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Neil Armstrong and Director of International Exeter, Dr Shaun Curtis (both of whom are alumni of Exeter) to learn more about the University’s achievements and plans for the future.  Professor Armstrong said: ‘The University is already one of the top universities in the UK and we have ambitious plans to become one of the top 100 universities in the world.  We need to ensure we have world-class campuses, producing world-class research and world-class graduates who are ready to meet today’s challenges.  To do that, we will need the continued support of our alumni and friends.’ Photographs from the events are available on the Event Photo Gallery page.

To learn more about the University’s ambitions, please visit our campaign website. The University plans to host more events, and to work with alumni to host receptions on the University’s behalf, across the United States.  Our next event will be a reception with the Vice-Chancellor in New York in the autumn.  To get involved in organising activities for alumni in New York, please contact the University’s alumni contact for New York City, Justin Davey.  You can view Justin’s contact details on our international contacts page.

Plans are also underway for a reception hosted by an alumnus at his home in South Carolina. If you would like to join any of our events, or would like more information, please contact the Development and Alumni Relations Office at alumni@exeter.ac.uk
