Alumni receive New Year’s Honours
Exeter alumni have been recognised in the New Year’s Honours list 2011.
Richard Lambert, the Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry, becomes Sir Richard after receiving a knighthood. It was awarded to him for his services to business. Sir Richard received an Honorary LLD from Exeter in 2010.
The Chief Executive of Torfaen County Borough Council in Pontypool, Wales, Alison Ward, receives the CBE for services to local government. She graduated in Law in 1981.
Publisher the Right Hon Lord Arthur George Weidenfeld (Hon DLitt 2001) receives the GBE (Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire). It was awarded in recognition of his public service.
Susan Clarke graduated from Exeter with an MSc in Educational Research in 2006. She is awarded the OBE for services to education. She is currently the Strategic Manager for Achievement through Collaboration at Devon County Council.
The MBE is awarded to Professor Ronald Andrew (Andy) Smith PhD for services to Higher Education and to community sport in North Yorkshire. Professor Smith is Professor of Exercise and Sport at York St. John University. He completed his PhD in Education at Exeter in 1995. An MBE also goes to Sally Bishop who graduated with a BA in Accounting and Finance in 1982. She works as a Private Secretary in the Research and Development Directorate of the Department of Health.
