Hockey alumni victorious

Alumni from around the UK made the journey to Devon to play the University’s current hockey teams, for the annual Hockey Alumni Day on 2 April.

The highlight of the tournament was a competitive game between 1st Team old boys and the current 1st Team, which saw the alumni edge a win 10-9. Given that the winning team traditionally buy a round for the losing teams, this may have been a rouse by the students, but regardless, the evening of convivial socialising that followed was enjoyed by all.

Our hockey alumni community have proved sterling supporters of the club over the year, allowing it to continue providing great benefits to members. Tom Woods, a final-year Business student and the Men's Hockey Club's Alumni Secretary, organised the weekend.

"It's fantastic to see so many guys come back to Exeter for the Alumni Day. Involvement in the Hockey Club forms a major part of many student's time at Exeter and it was great to see so many alumni and current students come together to celebrate their time within the Club. Plans are already being formulated for next year's event, which we hope will be even bigger."

Many Exeter alumni are now playing top-level hockey at some of Britain’s best league clubs, whilst others have gone on to play international hockey.

The Hockey Club is one of the most successful sports clubs at the University. Our hockey programme is highly renowned and has helped make Exeter one of the leading hockey universities in the country, attracting a great number of talented athletes to the University every year. At the end of April, the 1st team men will be competing in playoffs for the Premier Division, the highest level of English league hockey.
