Devon stories sought for journal
Short stories with an undercurrent and a Devon theme are being sought for a special edition of the book Riptide.
Riptide is a University-based creative writing journal which was established by alumnae Ginny Baily and Sally Flint, who met on the Creative Writing MA.
Riptide includes a mix of short stories from new and established authors and the sixth volume of the series has recently been published. Now funding has been secured from Wordquest towards a Devon-themed volume. The work will see old Devon tales published alongside the new work. Stories can be on any theme and ‘Devon’ can be interpreted in any way. Ginny and Sally who are the Editors are looking for tales which surprise them. For this volume, unusually, they are looking for two different kinds of submissions – fictional ones and ‘memoir snapshots’.
Fictional stories can be up to 5000 words. The memoirs need to be very short – a brief account of no more than 500 words offering an unusual insight into Devon. The deadline for submissions for both is the end of July. The special edition will be published in December 2011. Riptide is a non-profit making journal but successful authors receive a small fee and one complimentary copy of the book.
Further details can be found on the Riptide website.
