Composers line up for Paddon Award
The seven finalists in this year’s Paddon Award competition are putting the finishing touches to their compositions, ahead of the final next week. Joining the judging panel will be guest judge Kuljit Bhamra, Exeter Honorary Graduate, (DMus 2010). Kuljit has composed and produced over 2,000 songs and is responsible for the rise to fame of numerous Bhangra and Bollywood stars.
The other judges are Paddon trustees made up of alumni, current students and staff from the University.
The Paddon Award was established in memory of two alumni, who had contributed greatly to fostering cooperation between alumni and students to benefit the University. Both were very interested in the arts, particularly performance, so set up an annual prize to encourage some aspect of the arts, to include a performance element.
This year entrants have been invited to submit an original musical composition on the theme “New horizons - music in a cross-cultural landscape.”
Join us for the live music performances and the final judging ceremony, which take place in the new music facilities at Kay House, at Duryard, on the edge of the Streatham Campus on Thursday June 16 from 3-5pm.
