Alumni recognised in Honours' List

Receiving a Knighthood was Michael Pownall. Sir Michael, who was Clerk of Parliament for the House of Lords until his recent retirement, was awarded the KCB (Knights Commander of the Order of the Bath). Sir Michael has been a generous supporter of the University, including hosting alumni and guests at a reception at the House of Lords last November.

Judy Hargadon, Chief Executive of the School Food Trust, is awarded the OBE for services to children’s well-being. The School Food Trust is a charity which aims to see all children receive a balanced diet, coupled with the cooking skills and food education they need for good health and to achieve their full potential.

The Honourable Barnabas Leith, of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is UK, receives his OBE for services to the Baha’i Faith and to inter-faith relations.

Helen Brand, the Chief Executive of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, was awarded an OBE for her services to the accountancy profession.

Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Dallyn of the Royal Corps of Signals receives the MBE.

Holly Peterson, Head of Alumni Relations at the University of Exeter, said: “We would like to extend our congratulations to all those who have been awarded honours. It recognises their passion, dedication and commitment in their chosen field. It is a testament to the University of Exeter that every time honours are announced a number of our alumni are included.”

They join Professor Steve Smith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter, who received a Knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, for his services to education both locally and nationally. Sir Steve is also the current President of Universities UK.
