Cricket world-record set by Exeter alumnus

A new cricket Twenty20 world-record has been set by bowler and Exeter graduate Arul Suppiah (Accounting and Finance, 2005)

The Somerset County Cricketer took six wickets for just five runs, in 22 balls in the game against Glamorgan in Cardiff. He beat the previous world-record of six wickets for 14 runs, set in 2008.

After the game Arul who is a left-arm spin bowler told somersetcountycc.co.uk: "I've only just been told my figures are a record and it's still sinking in.

"I was bowling around the wicket on a leg-stump line and the batsmen kept trying to play me into the mid-wicket region. The ball was turning a lot and that's how I got most of my wickets.

"When I first went on as the third spinner I thought I might only bowl a couple of overs. But it was a really strange pitch for a Twenty20 match and things just went right for me.”

Glamorgan were 98 all out in a game of 18 overs for each side. Somerset won the match by five wickets.
