First year scoops Paddon Award
The Grand Final saw an evening of live performances, drinks and networking.
Five finalists performed their entries in front of a panel of four judges – alumna and writer Deborah Holt, alumnus and musician Jonathan Lee, James Lyons, Senior Lecturer for Film at Exeter and Archie Burbidge, Guild Arts representative.
The shortlisted entries included pieces of creative writing, a film and a musical composition all on the theme of ‘My Exeter, my University’.
The winner was first year Geography student Lucrezia Slinn, who received the £250 prize. Lucrezia wrote a piece of creative writing ‘My Exeter is not like your Exeter’ which received great acclaim from the judges.
Claire Panzeri, Alumni Officer for the College of Humanities said “The standard of entry was fantastic this year, it was a tough job for the judges! I would like to thank everyone who took part in the award, particularly our judges for sharing their expertise.’
The Paddon Award was established in memory of two alumni who contributed greatly to fostering cooperation between alumni and students to benefit the University. Both were very interested in the arts, particularly performance, so an annual prize was set up by encourage some aspect of the arts including a performance element.
