The Wildlife Adventures of Super Fox by alumna Rowena Millar.
Fox's antics support children's wildlife group
The adventures of a special fox have been brought alive by an Exeter alumna – and will help support a club for young wildlife enthusiasts.
Children’s book The Wildlife Adventures of Super Fox was written by alumna Rowena Millar, née Gelling (German, 1985). It was published by Cornwall Wildlife Trust to coincide with the 30th anniversary of their junior section, Fox Club. Cornwall Wildlife Trust also celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
The Wildlife Adventures of Super Fox is a 56-page softback full of wildlife cartoons with a conservation message, puzzles and games, creative crafts and outdoor activities for children aged 4 to 11. It is based on Pawprint, the Trust’s childrens’ newsletter which has been written by Rowena for the past ten years.
Endorsed by Exeter alumnus, TV naturalist and author Nick Baker, the proceeds from book sales will help Fox Club run its programme of wildlife events. Held all year throughout Cornwall, the events aim to engage children and inspire them to discover the wildlife and wild places around them.
Kirstie Francis, Fox Club Co-ordinator said: "What I love about this book is that not only does each cartoon make you giggle, but there are also important messages and lots of fun things to do."
Rowena has been editor of Wild Cornwall and Wild Scilly magazine for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trusts for ten years and is author of Hidden Beneath the Tides: UK Marine Special Areas of Conservation, published in 2001 by Natural England and its partner organisations throughout Britain, with the support of the European Community's LIFE Nature Programme. In 1995 she entered the 'BBC Wildlife Magazine Awards for Nature Writing' and was awarded the runner-up prize.
