Wendy Quill is a Crocodile’s Bottom is to be published in May.
Mum and daughter get their teeth into crocodile story
An alumnae and her daughter have written a new children’s book to be published next month.
Wendy Quill is a Crocodile’s Bottom (Oxford University Press) is the first book by the mother-daughter author-illustrator team telling the story of a Wendy Quill, a young girl who would just love to be a little bit famous.
Former English lecturer Dr Wendy O'Shea-Meddour (English 1996) said: “This story is loosely based on my childhood memories – as I was not a Wendy in my first school play but was in fact a crocodile’s bottom. Working on Wendy Quill has been an amazing experience as the book was illustrated by my 11 year old daughter.”
Wendy taught English at Oxford University for 8 years before turning to writing and illustrating children’s books after her third child was born. Wendy has previously written and illustrated two books: The Black Cat Detectives and A Hen in the Wardrobe, which has been longlisted for the 2013 Branford Boase Award. It also won the Islamic Foundation’s International Writing Competition and the John C Lawrence Award - a national award given to a writer whose work is considered to improve relations between races.
