Graduate Knighted in Queen's Honours List

He was awarded the honour for his voluntary service to young people and public life.

Sir Anthony (Law 1971, Hon LLD 2003) is an Executive Vice-Chairman of international investment bank Rothschild and a former Vice-Chairman of the BBC. He spent most of his legal career with international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, the last 10 years as Senior Partner.

In 2012 he was appointed by Barclays Bank to head an independent review of Barclays business practices and published The Salz Review in April of this year.

He was the lead non-executive member of the Board of the Department for Education from 2010 until the end of 2012 and he Chaired the Independent Commission on Youth Crime and Antisocial Behaviour which published its report in 2010.

He is a trustee of The Paul Hamlyn Foundation, an independent grant-making organisation which aims to maximise opportunities for individuals to live a full and rewarding life; with particular emphasis on children, young people and those who are disadvantaged.

As well as being a member of the Advisory Board for the University of Exeter Business School, Sir Anthony is also Chairman of the Trustees of The Eden Trust, owner of the Eden Project in Cornwall, and a Trustee of the Royal Opera House, Tate Foundation, the Media Standards Trust and the Scott Trust (owner of the Guardian). He is also a Governor of the Wellington Academy in Wiltshire, a former maintained secondary school which a few years ago, sponsored by Wellington College, became an Academy.
