University celebrates triple win in West Country Property Awards
The University celebrated a triple win in the Michelmores and Western Morning News Property Awards, the region's premier property competition, which showcases the very best in West Country property projects, buildings and people.
The awards ceremony was held in the Great hall at the University on 25 June 2013, hosted by broadcaster Gyles Brandreth.
The University came top in three out of the five commercial property categories, picking up first prizes for Building of the Year for the Forum, Eco Building of the Year for the Environment and Sustainability Institute on the Cornwall Campus in Penryn and Major Commercial Project of the Year for projects with a value below £3million for the Mood Disorders Centre.
Geoff Pringle, Director of Campus Services said: “We are delighted to have been so successful in this year’s awards. Continuing investment in high calibre infrastructure is vital for the University’s continued success as we strive to attract the brightest and best staff and students from around the UK. I would particularly like to thank Hugh McCann, Director of Estate Development and his team who have made all these award winning projects a reality.”
Previous big name winners have included the Princesshay Shopping Centre, Exeter, South Devon College, Plymouth's Roland Levinsky Building and the University of Exeter's INTO Centre. For a full list of the winners please visit the Awards website
This is the second award for the Forum, the flagship £48m student services building that has transformed the heart of the Streatham Campus. It was also one of three winners in the South West and Wessex category in the 2013 RIBA National Awards, the most rigorously-judged awards for architectural excellence. The shortlist for the coveted RIBA Stirling Prize for the best building of the year will be drawn from the 52 RIBA National and EU Award winners.
